Molds and Multiples

Discover an easier and faster way to make your favorite ceramic shapes!  We will spend day 1 making a basic form in clay, such as a wall house (pictured below) or a bowl, face, tray or animal.

Day 2 will be spent on making a one-part plaster mold of that form. Instruction will include how to frame in the mold, prepare the original, mix the plaster, and remove and finish the piece from the mold.

You will end up with one clay piece which will be fired by Cheryl Tall Art Studio for later pick up, and a plaster mold which can be used many times to make variations of your original design.

Fee: $200 for 2 days, plus $20 for 25 lb. bag of clay. Limited enrollment, reserve early.

Tiles and Textures

A two day workshop.

The first day, we will make texture stamps from costume jewelry, small figurines or statues, buckles, beads, buttons, shells or other textures using terra cotta clay, polymer clay and moldable silicone.  We will share these around and make multiple stamps in both roller and flat formats. It's fun to play with all the new textures and shapes that people will bring in!  The polymer clay and the silicone stamps will be cured on site and and used right away. The terra cotta stamps will be kiln fired for pick up at a later date. Both the polymer clay and the terra cotta clay stamps can be used to texture and mold fresh clay pieces.

The second day, we will use the polymer clay and the moldable silicone stamps that we have made to texture clay slabs for tiles, mosaic, jewelry, wind chimes, tiles or trays.  I will also have fired clay texture stamps from my own collection for us to use. These items will be fired at a later date and will be available for pick up at the clay studio.  The silicone and the polymer stamps can be taken home at the end of the workshop.

Date: email for date of next workshop.   Time: 10:30-4:00 pm  Fee: $200, includes polymer clay and moldable silicon, and one kiln firing for the ceramic clay tiles.  Ceramic clay available for $12.50 for half bag of 12 lbs. One day attendance available for $100.

"The Art Doll is a work of art drawn from the mind and hand of the artist and not bound by the same rules as dolls in other categories. It doesn't not have to be recognizable as a human form. It may be dressed or not. If dressed, the clothes may be carved, sculpted, glued on etc. Any media is permissible and likely. The art doll is judged by the same criteria as any other form of art, i.e., by the principles of design, scale, proportion, contrast, dominance, rhythm, balance, and must be judged for what it IS, nothing else."  ~Jane Covington
